Q: What should I bring to the concert?
A: Everyone must bring $5 to receive community service credit on the day of the recital. Cash is the only means of payment. If need be, you may bring your music. If you need a music stand, please bring that as well.
Q: Is there a limit as to how many pieces a performer can play, or how long a piece can be?
A: There is a limit of three pieces per performer, and each piece is recommended to be under 10 minutes. This, however, will only be enforced should there be an overload of registrations. Thus, you will only receive a notice of this should said circumstance occur, using the email submitted on the corresponding registration form.
Q: What instruments can a performer play?
A: Performers can play any string instruments (e.g. cello, viola, violin), wind instruments (e.g. clarinet, oboe, bassoon), brass instruments (e.g. trumpet, trombone, French horn), percussion instruments (e.g. piano, guitar, bells), or choral (i.e. voice). A piano is provided at the concert venue. Please be reminded that seniors do not prefer loud music. If you are unsure about your instrument, particularly if it is unusually loud, please contact us via the form located in the Contact Us page.
Q: Is there a place for my performers to practice or set up right before the show?
A: Yes. Across the concert venue is a private theater, which we will be using as a pre-concert room. This room will also be used to temporarily store performance accessories (e.g. sheet music, instrument cases).
Q: What are the deadlines for registration and cancellation?
A: Any registrations and cancellations will not be accepted within 12 hours of the performance. It is very disappointing for the audience when a registered student isn't present to perform, so please be sure that you attend as committed in your registration.
Q: Before I register, what exactly happens during registration?
A: Upon entering the registration page, you will be prompted with the option to register a specific quantity of separate performances. If you are interested in registering multiple performances, selecting the option with your specific quantity will save you time in the long run by eliminating the process of going back through pages you've already visited. After selecting an option, you will be shown a one-minute registration form you must complete with information about the performance. This information is handled with the utmost privacy, and solely for the purpose of registering the prodigy. After filling out this form, you will click a button leading you to a page that asks you to confirm registration. After clicking a button to finish the registration, you have nothing else left to do; the registration is complete. You will be sent a confirmation email summarizing the registration.
Q: What should performers wear?
A: Of course, avoiding graphic t-shirts and "short" shorts would be a good call. Simply wear long pants, a dress, and a tie! Oh, wait, I probably should be more specific. For boys, long khaki or dark pants, a polo or dress shirt, and perhaps a coat would suffice. For girls, a dress of a similar level of decency would do the trick.
